An Outing in Gainesville

Yesterday, Nicholas and I took a little trip up to Gainesville to visit the Frank Buck Zoo and Leonard Park. Before venturing into the zoo, we decided to stop for some lunch. I love to try "hole in the wall" restaurants that I've never heard of so we went to Taco Casa. I think only in Texas can you walk into a Mexican restaurant and hear country music playing in the background. Nicholas ordered the super nachos. The platter ended up being about the size of his head. He enjoyed them but hardly made a dent in the pile of chips.

The Frank Buck zoo was nice but very small. It has a nice wooden boardwalk that lets you travel over a large part of land and look directly down on the animals which was fun. We watched the kangaroos lazily enjoy an afternoon nap in the sun and zebras grazing on the grass.

There is a little "petting zoo" where you can feed and pet goats through the fence. Nicholas loved this. He enjoyed petting the goats but he was too afraid to hand feed them. Instead he put a piece of food on a bench outside the hole in the fence and made the goat strain their neck trying to eat. He got all giddy and happy when the goat ate his food but no matter what I said or did he didn't want to even try hand feeding.

Outside the zoo is Leonard Park which is a cool wooden playground with lots of hands-on activities that we just had to check out.

Before going home we had to stop for some ice cream. Nicholas loves vanilla so he ordered that, of course. However, he wanted to try my strawberry sorbet and he ended up eating most of it! Little stinker!

Glad you posted this review~ I found a Free Child Pass that I have for Frank Buck Zoo and wasn't sure if it was worth the drive! :) Looks like we'll have to try it!
